Despite its name, this mellow out-and-back is 16 miles in length (8 miles each way); in reality, though, you can make it as long or as short as you’d like. It is easy to moderate in aerobic difficulty and technically easy, combining well-graded two-wheel-drive road and a short patch of pavement at the beginning/end. The first four miles are coincidental with UM Pass, while beyond the suggested turn-around the road perseveres northward, eventually meeting I-70 a few miles east of Salina. One-half mile before the turnaround, there’s also the option of turning west and finding your way on four-wheel-drive tracks to the Plateau Valley, a beautiful mid-elevation basin of birds, streams, and cabins (you drove through it if you came to Fish Lake by way of Richfield). From there you would return to the Fish Lake Basin via UT 24 and UT 25. General location: 50 miles southeast of Richfield.
