What’s a road ride doing in a mountain bike guide, you ask? Well, once laying eyes on it, no cyclist in his or her right mind could resist this smooth, narrow ribbon of blacktop weaving above some of the most amazing canyons you’ll ever see. The scene is particularly stunning in late October, when the deep clefts of vividly hued rock brim with the brilliance of fall brush, all of it framed by the surrounding mesa’s subdued juniper green and darker stone. Traveling to Natural Bridges from the Mexican Hat area—where you are/were if you’ve just done one or more of the previous several rides—in itself offers an unending visual spectacle, along with this very special treat: the drive up the improbable Moki Dugway, which you can’t believe is there until you are there, and even then you’re not sure where it could possibly go next. General location: 50 miles west of Blanding, or 45 miles north of Mexican Hat.

This is a nice single lane one way loop through incredible scenery. You can stop at the many view points along the way AND on a bike you can stop at places the cars can't. The winding White Canyon is truely awesome. Also, day hike to some of the arches or ruins in the canyon. The rolling road is perfect for riding either a road or mountain bike. Even though you share this road with cars, there is not that much traffic. In June we had the road mostly to ourselves.
