This 27-mile loop following paved and dirt/sand roads is aerobically moderate in difficulty and technically easy, yet even the most expert of riders will rave over its colorful brand of desolate beauty. Buttes, spires, and sandstone idols with evocative names like Castle Butte, Seven Sailors, Southern Lady, and Rooster Butte will keep you company as you spin through this empty expanse of San Juan County. Valley of the Gods Road is 16.5 miles long, with the remaining 10.5 miles of the route following paved highways. General location: 20 miles west of Bluff, or 5 miles northwest of Mexican Hat.
