This 14-mile ride (7 miles each way) approaches the Klondike Bluffs from the northwest, ending just outside the boundary of Arches National Park. You must turn around at or before the park boundary, as mountain bikes aren’t allowed on the trails within the park. Overall the outing is aerobically and technically moderate in difficulty. The riding is a breeze to begin, as you ascend the gently sloping Salt Valley Anticline on typically well-graded sand and clay roads. Over the second half of the ride you’ll encounter a sizable stretch of slickrock, which should be negotiable by a strong novice. Tougher routes over the rock can be sniffed out, too, making this trail a good choice for riding companions possessing disparate technical skills. General location: 16.5 miles north of Moab.
