The Castle Valley Ridge Non-Motorized Trail System was developed by the Manti–La Sal National Forest and several cooperating partners, including the Cyprus-Plateau and Genwal coal companies, Carbon and Emery Counties, and the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation. The work, performed between 1992 and 1994, entailed rebuilding 14 miles of trashed and/or forgotten trail, as well as constructing 10 miles of new trails. In addition to single-track trails, the system includes several miles of rustic dirt road. Of the system’s five trails, only three are recommended for mountainbiking: Castle Valley Ridge Trail (rated moderately difficult), Short Canyon Trail (most difficult), and Sawmill Canyon Trail (moderately difficult). Two others—Second Water Canyon and Corner Canyon, both located on the east side of the system—are not recommended for mountain biking because of their exceedingly steep and sustained grades. (A third trailhead, Second Water, accesses these trails; however, directions to it have not been provided here because the trails aren’t recommended.) General location: 20 miles west of Price.
