If you only have an hour or two to take a ride, the Paint Creek Trail is a great choice. Its crushed limestone surface is firm and the 8-foot width is good for riding two abreast and/or passing hikers or other riders. It’s also a flat ride and great for kids and families. There are two bike fix-it stations located along the trail. One is in Rochester Municipal Park and the other is at Gallagher Road in the Paint Creek Cider Mill (mile 3.8). This includes a tire pump and basic repair tools. There are numerous parking areas all along the way with restroom facilities at some of them. Note also that there are a couple of ways that the path mileage is marked. The diamond-shaped signs with the D before the number indicate the mileage from the center of Detroit to that point. There are other rectangular mile markers as well at each gate, road crossing, and bridge that measure the distance from Rochester.
