Many sections of Oakland County continue their historic tradition as a major recreation outlet for the Detroit Metro region. Oakland County is dotted with extensive recreation areas set aside for public use, intertwined with residential properties. Add to this the glacial moraine that’s left behind a corrugated landscape, rich with low marsh areas, ponds, and small lakes, among jutting peaks, and it makes for a region lined with natural areas and wildlife mingling in amongst the development. Much of this ride combines all of the above, a rolling tableau of scenic beauty in an ever-growing region. The hills aren’t excessively long, nor are they inordinately steep, but the steady pulse of up and down will help keep your fitness up. That said, the natural surrounding beauty will distract you from the work you’re doing. This is a region where hundreds of riders at all levels join in on organized group rides due to the sheer enjoyment of pedaling over these back roads.
