The aptly titled Ronald Caspers Wild Ride is entirely within Ronald Caspers Wilderness Park. Once the massive climb to the high elevation of the route is conquered, the ride truly does get wild, with a long descent on rugged terrain, followed by a gradual descent on a rock-strewn trail. Both of these segments—in fact, the entire route—will find you dodging mini trail hazards and searching for the best line. It is a great route for someone with some mountain biking experience—the ride may be a bit too gnarly and challenging for a beginner. Start from the parking area nearest the entrance to Ronald Caspers Wilderness Park; that is, to the right as one enters the park. Head for the trailhead at the end of the lot, which puts you on San Juan Creek Trail. From a starting elevation of 391 feet, the trail climbs gradually.
