About an hour north of Boston lies Cape Ann, the summer-vacation mecca known for its prime beachfronts and picturesque coastal retreats. This ride traces the cape from Gloucester to Rockport and back around, passing fishing villages, farm country, and marshes along the way. With plenty of history and unrivaled views of the ocean, this ride has a bit of everything to coax any cyclist out of the city. You’ll start at the Fisherman’s Memorial on Gloucester’s Western Avenue. Gloucester predates both Salem and Boston by at least five years, its settlement the result of an expedition of the Dorchester Company from England. Although the original settlement was short-lived.
