Much like the Esplanade, Boston’s Emerald Necklace offers cyclists a paved, treelined escape route from the city. This historic string of linear parks is a testament not only to Boston’s efforts to integrate green space into its urban planning, but also to the city’s strides toward restoring and maintaining natural landscapes for the enjoyment of all. This loop along the Muddy River takes you through the gardens of the Back Bay Fens, Olmsted Park, and around Jamaica Pond before returning to the Fenway for a final stretch past the ornate Museum of Fine Arts.
