It’s the diverse scenery and habitat that makes this section of the California Coastal Trail along the Hammond multiuse trail unique. The trail surface ?ips back and forth between pavement, gravel, and dirt. The beginning of the trail showcases a shady woodland and fern forest before revealing an expansive estuary and marshland on the way to Clam Beach’s broad sandy shore. This trail constructed along parts of the abandoned Hammond Railroad property is a 5-mile stitch in the California Coastal Trail (CCT) Approaching Clam Beach the coast from Oregon to California’s southern border when it is completed. It’s always exciting to step on a trail and see the CCT blue wave logo at the trailhead.
