This trail is not just another one of coastal California’s pretty faces with crashing surf at the foot of rugged bluffs and sandy coves. It’s all that plus layers of rocky shelves jutting into the ocean from the marine terrace. In the meadow, grassy mounds roll around the scattered sandstone slabs, evidence of the nineteenth-century quarry activity. The trail blends the panorama of tame headlands with the more primeval setting of fern gardens in the shadow of gnarly weather-whipped pine tree tunnels clinging to the cliffs’edge.
