This is one of the most picturesque coastal hikes you can enjoy with or without a canine companion in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The little funky hamlet of Stinson Beach feels like it’s been plunked on this isolated and dreamy stretch of CA 1. Although just an arm’s length from San Francisco’s hustle and bustle, the Stinson Beach hike envelops you in solitude within a few yards of stepping out of Stinson Beach Park onto the sand. The Pacific on the west side hugs the wide, firm sand beach and dune-front homes on the east side. The weatherworn houses as you first start the hike scream of classic California beach town. But the real estate gets spiffier very quickly, and the architectural flair tells you Stinson Beach has been discovered.
