An easy, paved path leads through groves of mixed conifers and rock gardens to stunning Frazier Falls. Frazier Creek drops about 2,000 feet from Gold Lake, high in the Lakes Basin Recreation Area, to the Feather River as it flows out of Graeagle, and about 200 feet of that drop is in the form of a dramatic waterfall. The trail leading to the Frazier Falls overlook gives no hint of the chasm ahead, or the cleft in the mountainside that the creek flies through as a flume of whitewater. The stair-step backdrop to the falls is only apparent when the water flow is lower, in late season. But it’s there, carved by the same glacial forces that sculpted the rest of this spectacular stretch of the northern Sierra.
