A series of cascades capped by a short, tiered fall lies along the trail to Paradise Meadow. The hike begins across the park road from the parking area. The path is wide and flat to begin with, nicely shaded, with Lassen Peak looming above and Hat Creek rollicking in its bed to the right (west). The site of Hat Lake also lies to the right of the trail; the lake is small and slowly filling with meadow grasses, but still a tempting roadside attraction. The route begins to climb almost immediately, passing through dips that may hold water in early season and bordered with a thick, unruly hedge of willow, mule ear, and other riparian plants.
