This daylong hike circumnavigates the lower of two reservoirs on the American River. Lake Natoma is smaller, narrower, and mellower than Folsom Lake, with the paved circuit trail never straying far from its shady shoreline. Though better known as a cycling circuit, this long ramble around Lake Natoma is perfect for walking, talking, getting a great workout, and enjoying some of the best lakeside scenery Sacramento has to offer. Though far from little, Lake Natoma is dwarfed by its larger neighbor to the east, Folsom Lake.
