At the northern reaches of Rio Grande Valley State Park, Alameda Open Space provides access to both the 16-mile-long Paseo del Bosque Trail and a recently established county property, Bachechi Open Space.
The latter is named for Carlo and Mary O. Bachechi, who settled here in 1938 to raise a family in an agrarian environment. Less than a mile north, Bosque del Acres exists as a “living” agricultural community. This walk provides a glimpse into small family farms, both reconstructed and active, while examining elements in a complex water system that runs between them.
