Acquired in 2005, and now a sanctuary for those looking to enjoy desert hiking, this 1800-acre parcel of land outside of Yakima is managed by the Cowich Canyon Conservancy (CCC). Many trails grace this property, but the finest of all is this enjoyable trek up the open slopes of Cowiche Mountain, with its seasonal wildflowers and grand views.
Years ago former Supreme Court justice William O. Douglas enjoyed visiting the Snow Mountain Ranch here, then owned by friends, before starting his Cascades adventures. Today, the land is a great place to enjoy the outdoors as well as a critical place for salmon recovery efforts in Cowiche Creek.
