Purportedly the ?rst Appalachian mountain rising southeast of Columbus, Chestnut Ridge presents a circuit hike past springs, a rock quarry, and wooded slopes, and atop a high ridge where views await. Continue along the ridge, with its slopes dropping steeply o? either side of you.
Descend the mount to bridge a stream pouring o? the ridge. Toward the end a side trek takes you to the gardens and remains of a formerly fancy homestead. The climb up Chestnut Ridge is under 200 feet, making it doable by almost all hikers, especially when you consider the relatively short distance of the overall hike.
