This is the forgotten hike of Blackhand Gorge, the one passed over by most visitors to this state nature preserve. Don’t make the same mistake. This circuit oozes solitude and the back of beyond. Hike through deep and hilly woods, then come along the north rim of Blackhand Gorge, where views await. From there the hike visits a smaller tributary, investigating a deep and dark hemlock copse through which a stream cuts a mini-gorge, complete with waterfalls. Pass more geological features before completing your loop, adding the short Oak Knob Trail, likely without seeing another soul along the way.
