The Nemo Canyon hike takes you on a gentle downhill traverse hike through open desert and down a wide graveled wash, bounded by low ridges and multicolored badlands, providing a pleasing contrast to nearby mountain climbs. This moderate point-to-point down-canyon traverse begins in open desert country dotted with creosote bushes and Mormon tea. Nemo Canyon drops moderately to the southwest. To avoid walking toward the sun and into a stiff afternoon wind, make this a morning excursion if at all possible. The canyon is wide open with low-lying hills and ridges. Soon a few scattered yuccas begin to appear. At first the wash is braided and graveled, but it becomes better defined with a sandy bottom after about 1 mile. At 1.5 miles the valley narrows a bit.
