This nearly level trip takes you to the spring that was essential to the Keane Wonder Mine and mill operations. The area has many traces of mining activities of the last century. Like Keane Wonder Mine, the spring is also closed (2016) pending cleanup by the park service. Check with the Furnace Creek Visitor Center as to its status. The Keane Wonder Mine complex was at its height in the gold boom from 1906 to 1912. It was resuscitated by optimistic prospectors and investors several times. The most recent renaissance was in 1935–1937 when cyanide leaching of the mine tailings took place on the site. The tanks used for that operation still stand below the parking area.
