This short hike has everything going for it in a compact package. Within only 1 mile you’ll see a huge distinctive formation, a small arch, a natural bridge, and a glimpse of history thrown in for good measure. And to top it off, Mummy Canyon is easily accessible from a paved road. From the parking pullout climb a low berm and drop into the main Furnace Creek Wash. Look down the wash and you’ll see a side canyon that enters from the right, bound by brown columnar hillsides. This is Mummy Canyon. You can actually see the backside of the mummy-shaped formation from here, although it blends into the hillside on the far side of the canyon. When you get a lot closer you’ll know it when you see it.
