A long, challenging canyon loop in the wild, lightly visited Owlshead Mountains; these canyons take you to a remote desert range in the southern end of the park. Upon reaching the jumping-off point for this lengthy desert trek, you’ll have driven through a section of Death Valley known as “the Narrows.” The brown Confidence Hills to the immediate west are an eroded scarp of the southern Death Valley fault. It was once believed that the adventurous Harry Wade family used the road as an escape route from Death Valley in 1850. From your parking spot, you can see the prominent rounded hill beyond the Confidence Hills that forms the southern gateway to Through Canyon.
