A well-marked path leads through the sand dunes of Jockey’s Ridge State Park. While there’s no shade, you typically enjoy a nice breeze since the park is perfectly perched between the Roanoke Sound and the Atlantic Ocean. The trail forms a large loop through the dune-scape, and if you hike counterclockwise, the second half of the trail leads you along the shoreline. The entire family will enjoy wading out into the surprisingly shallow water of Roanoke Sound.
