This ride takes you on a tour of the beautiful rolling hills of rural Washington County. Century- old farms, nurseries, and wineries are some of the many sights along this hilly route. You’ll also have the chance to sample some of Oregon’s award- winning microbrews and burgers at the Rogue Brew Pub in North Plains, and at the Helvetia Tavern.
Twenty million years ago this area was covered with lava that flowed down the Columbia River basin from eastern Oregon. After the last ice age, water flooded the area and, upon receding, deposited sand, gravel, and a layer of topsoil throughout the region. These rich deposits, combined with the region’s fairly mild temperatures, are perfect for growing specialty crops such as grass seed, hazelnuts, berries, hops, wine grapes, and nursery products.
