At this 242-acre former naval communications station, a simple trail travels the jagged rocky peninsula overlooking Sachuest Bay, the broad Sakonnet River mouth, and the open waters of Rhode Island Sound. From October to mid-April, wintering harlequin ducks in striking plumage captivate spectators. Stormy seas can herd dozens of the birds onto shoreline rocks. An easy perimeter loop combines the site’s two named trails to travel the shoreline and upland habitat of this boot-shaped peninsula. The trail visits both Sachuest and Flint Points, with bird and wildlife watching, rocky shores, coastal vistas, spring-flowering shrubs, and surf fishing as enticements.
