A seemingly remote day trip or overnighter to a spectacular area accessible with a short hike. This trail is similar to the Gardner Lake hike (Hike 33) minus the big hill, and is ideal for beginning backpackers who like to fish or families with young children out for their first night in the wilderness. There’s a trailhead information sign on the south side of the road for the Beartooth Recreation Loop (Hike 34), which can be hiked from this trailhead as easily as from the Gardner Lake Trailhead (Hike 34). The trail is not well defined in the meadow along the road, so keep your eyes peeled for a few big cairns that mark its location.
