A moderately long day trip or easy overnighter to an idyllic mountain lake. Similar to the nearby trail up Basin Creek, the trail to Timberline Lake passes through a forested environment. Unlike Basin Creek, much of this route burned when the 2008 Cascade Fire swept through the upper West Fork Valley. As with almost all trails in the Custer National Forest section of the Absaroka-Bear tooth Wilderness, this one is well maintained and marked. The corridor to Timberline Lake was excluded from the Absaroka-Bear tooth Wilderness.
