A walk along Taylor River is perfect during the two- or three-week period in summer when Seattle is suffocating in our yearly 80-degree temperatures. Tree-tunnels provide ample shade, and periodic use-trails down to the river make for splashing opportunities. Water at Marten Creek and Big Creek is also available to wash off the sweat of the hike. The canyon is cool here from downcanyon drift. The Taylor is a tributary of the Middle Fork Snoqualmie, and its trail (a longabandoned road) follows above the river for 5 miles to the bridge over Big Creek. Along the way are side trails to Marten Lake and Otter Falls.
