The trail, which begins on the road, heads toward the ocean and some large dunes. Make a left onto the boardwalk and walk across Oso Flaco Lake. More than two hundred different species of birds live within the reserve. Plants such as yellow coreopsis, Indian paintbrush, larkspur, and poppies show off the natural beauty of this area. Some rare and endangered flora found here include the crisp dune mint, beach spectacle pod, and surf thistle. This unique ecosystem is sure to please.
