Okay, it’s not a natural lake. Formed when the waters of the mighty Skagit were dammed back in the 1920s to power the ever-growing city of Seattle, Diablo Lake is still a hell of a beautiful body of water. Filled with glacial flour from Thunder Creek, the lake becomes turquoise when the sun’s rays glance off the suspended particles. But even more impressive than the lake’s greenish-blue waters are the mighty mountains it reflects and the deep canyon hidden at its eastern end. The trip overlooking Diablo Lake is full of surprises and it’s no devil of a hike.
