The simplest route on one of the coast’s longest no-road, no-ORV (off-road-vehicle) sand spits is to start at Cape Lookout State Park campground and walk north up the beach until the sand runs out. Alternately, if the tide’s low (or at least not high) walk north on the bay side and return via the beach.

not really a lot of "details" here, just a great 5-mile(ish) one-way, out & back walk down the beach. It starts at Cape Lookout State Park (an awesome campground). The best part is that most likely you'll have most of it to yourself. Don't forget to reward yourself with a cold beer at "downstairs". This awesome pub is on the water, just a couple miles up the road, north of the campground. They have great food too, but the real draw is experiencing their fresh-squeezed screwdrivers ;)
