Nehalem Spit encloses Nehalem Bay with a long south-pointing finger of sand. If you walk to the tip, you can return via ocean beach, river beach, or sand trail. The trail isn’t as scenic as the beach options—in fact, it’s a little claustrophobic. But it can provide a welcome break from wet winds if the weather turns on you. For a one-way hike, prearrange a shuttle across the mouth of the spit.
