Koppen Mountain offers incredible views of the Stuart Range and the jagged peaks of the Teanaway Country. Such views are found on many other trails in this area, but what those other routes don’t have is the quiet and solitude found at Koppen. Enjoy this largely forgotten trail and you’ll be able to selfishly soak in those views without having to share. Start up at the trail as it parallels De Roux Creek heading west. After nearly 1.6 miles of forest hiking, the trail forks. Go left to leave De Roux Creek and start a steep climb out of the valley. You'll soon be sweating as you ascend switchbacks for just over a half mile to a 5040-foot pass on the shoulder of Koppen Mountain. You'll find fine views here, but don't stop now--the scenery and the views get better as you go higher.
