Be prepared for animal encounters—the forest and dense underbrush along the lower sections of this route are perfect cover for a host of critters, from raccoons and possums to bobcats, coyotes, badgers, weasels, martens, mink, and more. Pretty alpine meadows also await you on the flanks of rocky Tinkham Peak; sparkling alpine tarns dot the ridgeline. And if you venture up the side trip to Silver Peak, glorious views from the grassy summit spread out like a picnic buffet before your feet—a veritable feast for the eyes as you look south to the Norse Peak Wilderness, north to the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, west through the gap of Snoqualmie Pass to Granite Mountain, and east into the receding Cascade foothills.
