With trails like this, it is nearly impossible to forget that this entire region was shaped and built by volcanic activity. This little cinder cone is a wonderful place to explore and to enjoy some beautiful views from the top of the butte.

If you're looking to hike strictly for the workout, and you don't care about views, this is the hike for you! The trail is steep; ridiculously steep in places, and the summit "clearcut" mentioned in the trail description has long since grown over. The only view is a narrow view of the adjacent butte through a small opening in the trees.
