Fantastic scenery notwithstanding, this route offers a great lesson in volcanic destruction and resurrection. Life has returned en masse. The recovery of this area is evident not only from the flowers, bushes, and trees that are springing up, but also by the wildlife that has returned. Most impressively, massive Rocky Mountain elk have moved back into the area, and the beasts can often be seen along this ridge.
