A broad, flower-filled meadow lies just to the west of this trailhead. Spend a few minutes exploring fragrant Spencer Meadow before turning south and hiking down the trail. If you arrive early in the morning, you will probably find deer, elk, or both grazing in the lush forest clearing. If you don’t see any of these big animals in the meadow, keep your eyes open as you hike up the butte trail.
