Deep pine forests dominate this route, offering an experience in dry-side ecosystems The trail weaves around massive orange-tinged ponderosa pines and through fragrant spruce groves. Beavers and otters swim in the river below the trail, and owls, hawks, and eagles soar in the air overhead. Huge elk, mule deer, and black bear wander the hillsides around the trail, and snakes, coyotes, and cougars prowl the brush between the trees.
