Spectacular views! Very nice day hike! Better to get here via the switchback trail rather than the one from the visitors center. It's much shorter and not too steep. The views along the way are awesome too.
However, be aware of the dusty dusty trail, and wear black socks if you don't want your white socks to get stained by the red dust like mine!
The view from the top is definitely worth the hard work. We saw some Olympic Marmots as well as Mountain Goats along the trail. We did not start at the Switchback Trailhead but rather started from the Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center making about a 3.8mile trip total. This had us intersect the switchback trail for the last mile of the trip that ascended about 800ft in elevation. It was a hot day making it even tougher. Parts of it are kind of steep.
