From a popular campground off a busy highway, escape the commotion in a hidden little canyon along
the Big Quilcene River. Enjoy the serenading rapids and in springtime a floral show of blossoming lilies, honeysuckle, and rhododendrons. And as the canyon name suggests, there’s a waterfall too.
Plunging from the get-go, Trail No. 868 loses nearly 200 feet of elevation in 0.1 mile. Frothing white water comes into view as the trail leads to a ledge alongside the thundering Big Quilcene River. Here, deep within the chasm, the river’s roar amplifies, ricocheting off the guarding walls.
