The Winchester Mountain Lookout, a 14-foot by 14-foot wood cabin built atop a 6,500-foot peak in 1935, is the most easily reached fire lookout in the North Cascades. The trail is less than 2 miles long (one way), and in fact, from the parking lot, if you crane your neck way back, you can look up and see the flagpole atop the cabin. The High Pass Trail, which leads to high alpine meadows and stunning views of Mount Larrabee and the border peaks, shares the same trailhead.
