Superb high alpine meadows, that’s this trail in a nutshell. After switchbacking up a couple forested miles of hemlocks and firs, it’s just you and an open ridgetop trail beelining for Mount Baker’s north flank, just 5 miles away. Oh, yes, one other thing: splendiferous wildflower meadows, especially in July and August. (And as long as we’re being honest, one other thing: bugs. In July and August when the high-elevation snow is still melting out, the mosquitoes and flies can be quite horrendous. Take along an insect repellent that contains DEET and keep moving.)
