Backpack to a remote lake nestled on the western slopes of Goat Mountain. Lake Michael is a small alpine lake lying in a rocky basin just north of Davis Peak. The hike to Lake Michael follows a horse-trodden trail through quiet old-growth forest. The lake is a popular horse-packing trip, and hikers seem to prefer the more scenic hike to Deep Lake and Lake Vicente. If you don’t need spectacular views and get along well with horses, you might enjoy this hike. There's a good chance you’ll have it all to yourself.
