A spur trail from Waptus Lake leading to this remote, lovely alpine lake. Spade Lake is a lovely, lonesome lake nestled in a rocky cirque high on Mount Daniel. It is one of the most remote lakes in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. The shortest path to the lake is some 13 miles one way, with plenty of elevation gain up a rugged trail. This hike is best done as a three-day backpack, with a base camp at Waptus Lake, allowing a full day to hike up to Spade Lake and explore. Backpackers who venture to Spade Lake will enjoy a profound sense of solitude unknown to most wilderness visitors, interrupted only by jets flying overhead and the occasional day-trippers up from Waptus Lake.

Beautiful hike. Spent 5-6 days on this hike with my friend, there are forests, mountain meadows and expansive vistas of distant mountains. A serious hike though- You may want to camp overnight or at least be prepared to do so.
