A loop hike over a high pass and along a scenic subalpine ridge below the spectacular Snoqualmie Crest peaks. The Waptus-Escondido Loop hike combines segments of several trails in the vicinity of Pete Lake and Waptus Pass for an excellent three- or four-day backpacking trip. It is one of many options for overnight hikes in this area. The trailhead is located at the western end of Cooper Lake. Drive I–90 to Roslyn/Salmon la Sac exit 82. Drive north 2.8 miles to the State Route 903 junction. Turn left and follow SR 903 through the towns of Roslyn and Ronald and along the east shore of Cle Elum Lake to Cooper Lake Road (Forest Road 46). Turn left and follow Cooper Lake Road 4.6 paved miles to the Cooper Lake turnoff, then turn right on FR 4616 and follow the gravel road 1.6 miles down across the river and up along the lakeshore to the Pete Lake Trail turnoff. A loop hike over a high pass and along a scenic subalpine ridge below the spectacular Snoqualmie Crest peaks. The Waptus-Escondido Loop hike combines segments of several trails in the vicinity of Pete Lake and Waptus Pass for an excellent three- or four-day backpacking trip. The trailhead is located at the western end of Cooper Lake. Drive I–90 to Roslyn/Salmon la Sac exit 82. Drive north 2.8 miles to the State Route 903 junction.
