Cultus Creek Trail offers lots of flowers and an excellent view of Mount Adams as well as the shortest access route to the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) in the Indian Heaven Wilderness. Leaving the Cultus Creek Campground, the trail climbs through mixed fir and hemlock forest. Huckleberry bushes encroach on the tread as it gains altitude. A small metal sign lets you know you are entering Indian Heaven Wilderness 0.2 mile from the trailhead. Lupine, paintbrush, phlox, and avalanche lilies bloom in the openings in mid-July, and occasionally leopard lilies pop up, adding their festive orange color.
