Hike the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) through the length of Indian Heaven Wilderness. Much of this trail is not very scenic, but it gives access to many side trails that are. Once you reach the second junction with Sawtooth Mountain Trail, at 4,610 feet elevation on the northern end of Sawtooth Mountain, the route starts to descend. Soon the PCT leaves Indian Heaven Wilderness. As you lose elevation the forest becomes more open. Mountain ash and huckleberry bushes cover much of the landscape, and lupine blooms between the bushes. Mount Adams comes into view to the east as you enter the famous Sawtooth Huckleberry Fields. Native Americans have gathered berries here for centuries, and the tradition continues today.
