Hike the mostly downhill route through the forest, from high on a ridgeline nearly to the bottom of Yellow Jacket Creek Canyon, watching for flowers and deer all the way. Leaving the trailhead the tread climbs moderately through second-growth western hemlock and Douglas fir forest. Bracken fern, huckleberries, Oregon grape, and bunchberries (Canadian dogwood) cover the ground beneath the young trees.
